Need Exposure Help? YELP!

YELP!

Oh – sorry – I didn’t mean to frighten you, there. I’ll say it more quietly this time: yelp. For those of you who are already nodding then – congratulations! – you’re riding the social media wave. For those of you who are waiting for the punchline, can’t figure out what I’m talking about, or have heard this term before, but don’t know what it is beyond what your dog does when you step on him on your way to the bathroom at 3:00 AM, then this post is for you!

Yelp! is an on-line business ‘bulletin board’ that is rather unique among similar sites for several reasons. First and foremost, it allows a breadth and depth of information to be presented in an intuitive way to potential clients or customers that the other services that I’ve seen just don’t seem to quite measure up to.

Oh – and did I mention that it’s FREE? If not, then allow me to introduce incentive number two: It’s free. Not only is it free, but it increases your exposure in a number of ways, not limited to further exposure on Google or other search engines.

In point of fact, it can function as a ‘mini’ web site, if you can’t afford one of your own – it’s that detailed. Not on Yelp! yet? Well, there’s no time like the present to branch out, spread your wings, and remind the world that you’re there, you’re selling, and you want their business!

One point of note before doing so, however: Do it right. Take the time to make the best use of each of the offered categories by maximizing information in a comprehensible and compact form. Make the pictures count, and choose those that are well-lit, and well done! If you need to manipulate the photo – do so! Don’t skimp out on this because, like a science project in grade school, your efforts will be immediately identifiable. Spelling, grammar, content, data, visuals – all must present a phenomenal package to the potential client. They should speak to them in a way that says, “If we care enough to present this data in such a grand fashion, imagine what we can do for you/sell you/do to you!”
